Starting All Over (A Chance to do Better) Re-entry, Inc., (Starting Over) is a nonprofit agency providing re-entry programs for participants returning to the Youngstown area. The program will form alliances with local service providers as well as recruit volunteers to become mentors. Starting Over Again’s goal is to foster a commitment to returning ex offenders that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future. Only through personal relationships can a sense of individual responsibility be reestablished that will give participants the commitment to follow through on path to a stable and productive life. with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Through repeated failures with reentry programs prisoners and at-risk ex-offenders have lost faith in the possibilities that await them once they re-enter society. To be successful in helping participants put their lives together, they must be in a caring, inclusive learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect.Starting Over Again is a program that is in direct response to the growing number of ex-offenders reentering society with no plan or support. 75% will either fall through the cracks or become entangled with the court system again. The goal of the program is to identify participants who might otherwise have a turbulent transition in reentering society and offer a positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. The focus is slightly different for each participant but the goal remains the same; empower them to make positive changes in their life.
