Give OnineVOLUNTEER
Starting Over Again’s mentoring programs will pair a participant with mentor for 12 months. During that time the two will participate in weekly planned activities to strengthen the relationship between the two and improve the participant’s confidence and hopefulness. Mentors will receive continuous training throughout the year and will participate in monthly meeting with the participant’s case worker.
Over time, Starting Over Again will create a learning environment that will be an invaluable resource to ex-offenders, mentors and the community at large. The recruitment and training of mentors is ongoing. If you would like to help change a life please go to contact us a submit the form.
FINANCIAL LITERACY
All participants will be required to complete and demonstrate competency in a course on financial literacy. The training is designed by National Endowment for Financial Education. In addition to the literacy course participant will be assisted with with personal administrative matters (i.e. I.D. payment arrangements on child support)
HEALTH SERVICES
Participants will be assisted in applying for health care, and will also be assisted in accessing health care. Health care will also include referrals in the event substance abuse or anger management assistance is needed.
TRAINING
Participants in Starting Over will not only receive training in interviewing and resume preparation, they will receive training in specific skills that are in demand. The skills training will be offered at an accredited in house school for carpentry and truck driving. The participant’s previous training and experience (where applicable) will be marketed to prospective employers with the goal securing positions prior to completion of training. Other on the job training opportunities will be offered as they are developed.
HOUSING
Starting Over will provide transitional housing where participants will be in a safe and positive environment, which also provides three (3) meals a day. This residence will give the participant the ability to reestablish himself without being a burden to family members. The housing will also be the site of the participants various training’s, and where they will receive referral to other services. Agreements will also be developed with property owners to allow participants access to safe affordable housing upon completion of the programs.
